David Paul Brandt (Am., born 1960) began drawing and painting at age two. Tutored by his mother, award-winning watercolorist Marge Brandt, David progressed rapidly as an artist and began his career by selling his first painting at age six. Brandt won numerous awards in juried shows for sketches and drawings, and received formal training at Columbus College of Art and Design, Orange Coast College and Art Center College of Design. He has painted on the islands of Guadalupe, Moorea, San Salvador and Kauai and locations throughout the United States and England.

Brandt's objective for his most recent work is to permit paint to flow in the most uncontrived way possible. Using brushes minimally with a concentration on movement and serenity, Brandt generates a calm format by allowing his malleable palette to ebb and flow, much like the forces of wind, water and earth. The goal of his latest series has been to create environments in which time has been allowed to take its course, as though the forces of nature were allowed to gently, unhurriedly move the work, and in the movement's path leave behind traces of its occurrence.
